Soothing Anxiety

candleSoothing anxiety

How are you feeling at the start of this new year, 2010? Are you optimistic?

As I write my first blog, I can empathise with any of you who may be having anxious thoughts! No, I am not anxious, but really excited to finally get this happening. I hope you are also excited about where you are at this very moment.

If you are not, or feeling any less than a degree of optimism or excitement, then you may be experiencing a little anxiety as to how things will pan out for you. Anxiety can manifest in many ways, ie. headaches, chest tightness, tension in the body, heart palpitations, stomach discomfort etc.

So at this time it is important to remember to stay present, in the moment, as your state of conscious presence will manifest a future calm. What can help you to maintain this presence is by first neutralising any fearful thoughts or anxiety of what ‘could’ happen in the future, with Energy Psychology techniques. You can quickly soothe yourself by tapping to reduce any level of intensity that you may be feeling with any of the following statements, tapping around the points on your face (see my website for tapping diagram and instructions).

For instance,

ET I’m anxious and fearful about what might happen, I WANT to LOVE and accept myself anyway.

ET (even though) the future looks uncertain, I CHOOSE to remain positive (or choose to stay calm and focused on the present)

Or you can make up your own statements that reflect your individual situation.

Remember to embrace calming thoughts, or try to meditate which is very effective in calming an over-active mind. As you practise sitting still, in meditation (if don’t know how to, just focus on your breath going in and out) you will develop the quality of the ‘witness’ or ‘observer’ and the ability to step back from your wild mind, in a calm way.

Where there is any tension, there is also opportunity. An opportunity to embrace this time to develop new tools and practise mindfulness that will help you to remain calm in any situation you find yourself in.

Wishing you all a peaceful and very loving 2010.
